About the role
We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join our dynamic Finance Team at our head office in Mt. Wellington, Auckland. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will provide financial and management accounting support for our larger Hamilton manufacturing plant and for two smaller manufacturing operations. You will also provide financial accounting services for the Trading Company and Property Company. You will be a key business partner to operations, sales, and supply chain teams, delivering accurate cost information, meaningful analysis, and timely reporting.
This role is hands‑on, analytical, and well‑suited to someone who enjoys working closely with operations and using financial insights to drive performance. The role also requires a sound financial accounting background.
You will be responsible for the following ((the role has two components)
Management Accounting for the Manufacturing Operations across the business – mainly at the Hamilton Plant, and at two smaller operations.
- Maintain Cost Accounting Systems, ensuring that the manufacturing accounting system shows accurate product costing, standard costs, BOMs and routings.
- Standard Costing and BOM Management, ensuring that standard costs reflect current product formulations and manufacturing methods
- Deliver insightful cost variance analysis, identifying drivers and recommending actions to improve performance
- Produce clear, timely production cost and variance reports to support operational decision‑making
- Analyse gross margins and product profitability, supporting pricing decisions, cost reductions and margin improvement initiatives
- Lead role in annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting, aligning costs with production plans and business goals
- Deliver an accurate manufacturing month‑end close and results reporting
- Oversee inventory management and controls to ensure accurate inventory records
- Ensuring ERP system data integrity in relation to costing, inventory, BOMs and routings
- Sales Team support on product costing, profitability analysis, sell rates, profit margins
Financial Accounting and reporting for the Trading Company and Property Company
- Work effectively as part of the Finance Team to provide financial support services to the trading business, Functions and Business Managers
- Transaction processing; Journals; Reconciliations; Analysis; Invoice coding; Maintain GL and accounting records including Fixed Assets Registers.
- Deliver Month End Reporting. Monthly Financial and Operational Results (General Ledgers; Business / Cost Centre / Function P&Ls; Balance sheets), and the provision of analysis and financial accounting information for the Company and Business Areas
- Financial analysis to support business decision making
- Statutory Compliance including Audit, Financial Statements and Taxation
- Assist in delivering effective financial management for the company
We are ideally looking for someone who has:
- CPA or CA qualified (or at an advanced stage of completion). This is essential.
- Minimum of five years’ practical accounting experience in a large business
- Comprehensive understanding of financial management, accounting principles, standards, and processes
- Experience in a management accounting role within a manufacturing or FMCG environment
- Strong understanding of management accounting, cost accounting, variance analysis, manufacturing processes, and inventory management.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to engage with non-finance stakeholders
- Experienced in the use of ERP accounting systems (D365 experience highly regarded)
